Oh The Stories They Tell | Connecticut Family Photographer

Hi Friends,
It's been one amazing week around here.  With three back-to-back session consultations, working on a gorgeous maternity collection, and getting ready for a family portrait session tomorrow night, this morning started out a little slower than I anticipated.  It's easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of life, the hurry up and wait mentality.  So this morning I took some extra time to pour my coffee and sit to think back on the week of so many new and exciting lives I get to be a part of very soon!

It's no surprise that I adore black and white images.  There is something so timeless and meaningful behind a simple black and white photo.  As a kid, my favorite photograph was of my father and I after I had one of two eye surgeries.  The hospital photographer snapped it and I've always been so inspired by this image.  It was candid, real, and us.  I shared it this past Father's Day but just in case you didn't see it, you can click HERE to see the picture.  It was a moment I would have never remembered on my own if we didn't have this image.  There was a story behind the scenes of this picture and I learned at a young age that photographs were our key to unlocking our past and helped us make sense of how we got here and what life before us and growing up was like.

As an adult--or a bigger kid, haha, I've realized how much photographs give us a deeper perspective to our past and present.  They are an important tool for navigating life as a child.  We take pictures of our kids and the first thing they say afterwards is "let me see".  They want to be a part of seeing life through another perspective, it's like looking through a mirror of time.  They get it.

There was something so special about this image I recently shared from a family portrait session.  You have all been there, when your children, nieces, nephews, or little cousins tell you a story.  They go on and on as you carefully listen to every last word, nodding your head saying "ah huh!", "yah!", "and then what!!", encouraging them to keep going.  Watching their little imaginations run wild.  It's the best and hysterical.  THESE are the moments you are going to want to remember.  My hope is when this big brother grows up, he will see this photo and ask his mother, "what was I saying to you"?  And I really hope, they look at it together and it sparks an even bigger story about this moment, their family tradition at this park, the way she used to love when he would tell her stories and play with her necklace, now all grown up as an adult.  I hope this image serves as a gift to his past and the loving relationship between mother and son.  An image to let him remember what life was like.  To me, that's what it's all about.  It's everything.

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

xo
