Celebrating Firsts | Eliza's First Birthday

I am a big believer in celebrating firsts.

First year of marriage.
First year in a new home.
First year in a new job.

All firsts are important, worth a toast and a look back to appreciate the journey.

One of my favorite firsts to celebrate is a child's first birthday.  There is something so special about this first. It's a chance for parents to reflect on the year that has passed so quickly.  A chance for parents to sit back, take a breath and feel a sense of accomplishment knowing they made it through the first year of change.

When I ask my friends and family about their first year of parenthood, I'm told that it’s a year of many firsts! The pure joy that comes with watching their child grow, the excitement of seeing the family connections being built with their child. With the good, however, there are also some struggles.  A child's first birthday symbolizes the successful navigation of all the new challenges parents face throughout that first year.  It’s a year filled with many unknowns, many sacrifices and so many special moments.

Whatever your first may be...be sure to celebrate it!

I was so excited to capture the first birthday of my sweet Goddaughter Eliza. When my Cousin asked me to be Eliza's Godmother, I cried happy tears.  I was so honored that she chose me to be her daughters spiritual leader through life.  Only my Cousin would be so creative to return my Mother's Day phone call hours later only to ask me to be Eliza's Godmother.  My Cousin said some really nice things...I wish I could remember them all!  It was kind of like when your husband proposes...it was all so beautiful but you can't remember a word he said!  I was beyond (and still am) so touched that my Cousin has given me this beautiful gift and family connection to Eliza.  It was a very special Mother's Day.

Oh Eliza...I have many wishes for you my darling.  So glad you enjoyed your first birthday party, your first piece of cake, your first special day where it was all about you!  You bring SO much joy to our family. Your adorable smile and the sparkle in your eyes just light up the room.  Keep celebrating my sweet Goddaughter.

Oh sweet Eliza, happy first birthday!
